Turning Houses Into Homes
I recently saw Habitat for Humanity’s definition of “home”. It read “Home is a safe haven and comfort zone. A place to live with our families and pets and enjoy with friends. A place to build memories.” I’ve always been in love with the idea of home and judging from the hundreds of books on the subject, others are too.
This definition really resonated with me. I thought to myself that what we are doing through home staging is furnishing a house so that the minute a buyer opens the door they feel that instant comfort and the possibility of all the memories to be made in the space. They don’t see the small odd shaped room or the place where the grout isn’t perfect. Our goal is to make them FEEL. Studies have shown that emotion impacts purchasing decisions to a much greater degree than logic does. And that is why we fill empty houses with furniture, textiles, art, decor and books. To make it FEEL lived in. To make it FEEL comfortable. To make the house FEEL like a home.
